The delegates to the 1994 National Meeting of Diocesan
Liturgical Commissions in Saint Louis were responsible for the
establishment of a national award of recognition through the following
Position Statement:
It is the
position of the delegates to the 1994 National Meeting of Diocesan
Liturgical Commissions that the Executive Committee of the Federation of
Diocesan Liturgical Commissions establish a means of recognizing
significant contributions to furthering liturgical renewal in the United
States. Be it further resolved that the Chair of the FDLC Board annually
appoint an ad hoc committee to determine a suitable candidate to receive
this FDLC recognition. Such recipients shall have made a significant
contribution to the liturgical renewal in the United States.
Consequently at its annual meeting in January, 1995, the
Board of Directors voted to establish the Monsignor Frederick R. McManus Award
to honor an individual who or organization which has made a significant
contribution to pastoral liturgy on the national level.
